The Truth About Covenant-Breakers and Why You Should Stay Away from Them
What is a Covenant-Breaker in the Baháʼí Faith?
The Baháʼí Faith is based on the teachings of Baha’u’llah,
who established a covenant with his followers to ensure the unity and
continuity of his religion. He appointed his son, Abdu’l-Baha, as the sole
interpreter of his writings and the center of his covenant. Abdu’l-Baha, in
turn, made provisions for the succession of leadership in his Will and Testament,
which is regarded as a sacred and binding document by all Baháʼís. Abdul Baha
appointed his grandson Shoghi Effendi as the First Guardian of the Baha’i Faith
and gave directives for the future so the faith is not left on its own at the
mercy of fallible individuals who will cause more loss to the faith than any
good.
However, a conspiracy was planned by the widow of Shoghi
Effendi and the persian hands supported her and created schism in the faith by
establishing a headless body and naming it Universal House of Justice. They for
their personal motives got deviated and also deviated a large number of sincere
Baha’is from the true meaning and intent of the Will and Testament, leading to
violations and distortions of the covenant and its institutions. Those who
oppose or reject the leadership or guidance of the living Guardian, who is the
center of the cause and the expounder of the words of God, are considered as
covenant-breakers.
How to Identify a Covenant-Breaker
According to the Baháʼí writings, a covenant-breaker is
someone who:
- - Fully understands and grasps the significance of
the covenant and recognizes the center of the cause, but knowingly and
purposefully betrays it due to personal and selfish motives or ambitions.
- - Opposes or undermines the authority or guidance
of the center of the cause, whether it is Abdu'l-Baha, Shoghi Effendi, or his
appointed successor.
- - Associates with or supports other
covenant-breakers or enemies of the faith.
Covenant-breaking is a spiritual disease that can infect and
corrupt anyone who is not loyal and faithful to the covenant. It is compared by
Abdu'l-Baha to leprosy, which can spread from one person to another and cause
physical deformity and decay. Covenant-breakers are shunned by the Baháʼí
community and deprived of its privileges and blessings.
How to Avoid Becoming a Covenant-Breaker
The best way to avoid becoming a covenant-breaker is to:
- Study and understand the covenant and its provisions, as
explained by Baha'u'llah, Abdu'l-Baha, and Shoghi Effendi.
- Obey and follow the instructions and directions of the
center of the cause i.e. the living Guardian, who is under the care and
protection of Baha'u'llah.
- Love and serve the Baháʼí Faith and its institutions with
sincerity, humility, and detachment.
- Refrain from associating with the covenant-breakers or
their propaganda. Instead those who do not believe in the continuation of Guardianship
should be give proofs from the Will and Testament of Abdul Baha and other sources
which were published before 1960 as those books have clear directives and prove
that the Guardianship will continue until the coming of the next Manifestation.
The covenant of Baha'u'llah is a precious gift that ensures
the unity and progress of humanity. It is our duty as Baháʼís to uphold and
safeguard it from any violation or distortion. By doing so, we will fulfill our
destiny as the followers of the greatest name.
Why We Believe in a Living Guardian
As followers of the Orthodox Baháʼí Faith, we believe that
Shoghi Effendi fulfilled his duty as the first Guardian by appointing his
successor in his lifetime, as required by Abdu'l-Baha's Will. He chose Charles
Mason Remey, one of his most trusted Hands of Cause, as the second Guardian and
the president of an embryonic Universal House of Justice. However, most Baháʼís
rejected Remey's claim after Shoghi Effendi's passing and formed their own
version of a Universal House of Justice without a Guardian.
We believe that this was a grave violation of the covenant
and that only a living Guardian can expound the words of God, direct the Hands
of the Cause, and serve as the sacred head and distinguished member for life of
the Universal House of Justice. Without a living Guardian, we believe that the
Baháʼí Faith would be mutilated and deprived of its hereditary principle, which
is essential for its preservation and protection.
We also believe that each Guardian has the authority and
obligation to appoint his successor in his lifetime, as stipulated by
Abdu'l-Baha's Will. Therefore, we recognize Joel Bray Marangella as the third
Guardian, who was appointed by Remey before his death in 1974. We also
recognize Nosrat'u'llah Bahremand as the fourth Guardian, who was appointed by
Marangella before his death in 2010.
We believe that by following a living Guardian, we are
faithful to Baha'u'llah's covenant and Abdu'l-Baha's Will. We invite all
sincere seekers of truth to investigate our claims and join us in upholding
this precious gift from God.🙏
