Baha'i Fasting
The 19 Day Fast (not to be confused with 19 day feast) is a 19 days period of the year during which members of the Baháʼí Faith adhere to a sunrise-to-sunset fast along with obligatory prayer. Its purpose is spiritual: to reinvigorate the soul and bring the person closer to God.
The laws of Fast are mentioned in Kitáb-i-Aqdas.
The fasting occur immediately before the beginning of the Baha'i New Year.
We the followers of Orthodox Baha'i Faith are very strict when it comes to fasting.
I remember that when I was a member of the Sans Guardian group and the fasting month came, I used to ask the other Baha'i members if they were fasting. They used to tell me to not ask a Baha'i if he or she is fasting or not.
Initially I thought that it is such a good thing that we are asked to not ask someone if they are fasting or not as they may feel insulted. But later I came to know that none of the prominent members of Sans Guardian group fasted. Even those who were in best of health avoided fasting.
Not only this they even made fun of few of the Baha'is like me who were observing fast which was ridiculous.
I am glad that I independently investigate the truth and accepted the Orthodox Baha'i Faith which is the True Baha'i Faith. It had answer to all my questions and also it functions exactly as per the instructions mentioned in the W&T of Abdul Baha.
